How Commstec Strengthened Security and Device Management for a Global Software Business

A software company based in Doncaster needed a more secure and more manageable IT environment to support staff working across multiple countries. With users spread across locations including the USA, Argentina, and Thailand, and relying on a mix of Windows and macOS devices, the business needed consistent control, reliable support, and secure access to the systems staff depended on every day.

Microsoft 365 sat at the centre of day-to-day operations, so user management, device oversight, and platform administration all needed to be handled properly. The client also needed firewall and wireless upgrades at its main site to improve resilience, performance, and day-to-day reliability.

Commstec was brought in to strengthen security, improve supportability, and help the business manage a global end-user environment more effectively without getting in the way of day-to-day work.

The Challenge

The client needed practical control across a distributed environment.

Supporting users across multiple countries is difficult enough on its own. Add in a mixed Windows and macOS estate, heavy Microsoft 365 reliance, and the need for consistent support across time zones, and things can quickly become messy if the environment is not properly managed.

The business needed stronger oversight of end-user devices, better day-to-day management of Microsoft 365, and a more consistent approach to security and support across the estate. The office network also needed attention, with the existing firewall and wireless setup requiring improvement to provide better performance, stronger security, and a more dependable experience for staff on site.

The goal was to improve visibility, control, and reliability without adding friction for users or slowing the business down.

What We Did

Commstec worked with the client to improve day-to-day management, security, and supportability across the environment.

This included:

  • actively managing the client’s Microsoft 365 environment
  • supporting and securing a mixed estate of Windows and macOS devices
  • improving visibility and control across devices used in multiple countries
  • strengthening day-to-day user and device management across the estate
  • upgrading the firewall to improve security and resilience
  • upgrading the wireless network to improve coverage, performance, and reliability
  • providing a more consistent support experience across the environment

The focus throughout was on practical delivery, stronger operational control, and making sure the environment could support a growing, internationally distributed team.

The Outcome

The client ended up with a more stable, more supportable, and better controlled IT environment.

With Microsoft 365 actively managed and monitored, and the Windows and macOS estate under closer control, the business gained better visibility across users and devices, along with a more consistent approach to support and security.

Upgrading the firewall and wireless network also improved resilience and day-to-day reliability at the main site, giving staff a stronger platform to work from locally while supporting the wider international environment.

More broadly, the business gained greater confidence that its users, devices, and core collaboration platform were being managed properly across a distributed setup.

Why it Mattered

For software businesses with users and developers spread across multiple countries, weak control over devices, inconsistent support, and unreliable connectivity create drag very quickly.

By focusing on the areas that mattered most, Commstec helped the client improve day-to-day support, strengthen operational control, and build a more reliable foundation for a global team using both Windows and macOS devices.
